About JPG to PDF

Job portals, university admission forms and visa applications often ask for one PDF file, while what you have is a handful of photos taken with your phone: the two sides of an identity card, the pages of a certificate, a signed form. This tool puts those photos into a single PDF, one photo on each page, in the order you choose.

The tool tries not to touch your pictures. A JPG that is stored the right way up is placed in the PDF exactly as it is, without being compressed a second time, so it loses no quality. As a result the PDF is about as large as the photos added together.

Phone photos are a special case. Many cameras store the picture sideways and add a small note that tells viewers how to turn it. A PDF does not read that note, which is why photos sometimes end up lying on their side in a PDF. When a photo carries such a note, this tool turns the picture upright and saves it again as a high quality JPG before it goes onto the page.

You decide what the pages look like. With A4 or US Letter, every page becomes portrait or landscape to match the shape of its photo, and the photo is scaled to fill the page without being stretched. Same as image makes each page exactly as large as its picture, which suits screenshots and anything that will only be read on a screen. The White margin option leaves a border of about one centimetre, which helps when the PDF will be printed.

Check the order before you press Create PDF. When you choose more than one file, a list appears under the box with a small preview of each picture, and the Up and Down buttons move a page to the right place.

Two things are worth knowing about the result. First, the pages are pictures. You can read them, but you cannot select, copy or search the text, because the tool does not recognise letters. Second, size adds up quickly: ten phone photos of four megabytes each make a PDF of about forty megabytes, which is more than many upload forms accept. If you have a limit to meet, make the photos smaller before you combine them.

When Should I Use This?

Use it when a form or an office wants a single PDF and you only have photos or scans as separate JPG files. It also helps when you want to send several pictures as one attachment that opens in the same order for everyone.

How to Use JPG to PDF Step by Step

  1. Choose your JPG images, or drag them onto the box.
  2. If you chose more than one, use Up and Down in the list to put the pages in order.
  3. Pick a page size: A4, US Letter or Same as image. Tick White margin if you plan to print.
  4. Press Create PDF.
  5. Download the PDF and open it once to check every page.

Limitations

The tool does not crop, straighten or brighten photos, so do that in your phone gallery first. The text on the pages is not searchable, and there is no setting to make the PDF smaller. Images of other types, such as PNG or WebP, can be dropped onto the box as well. They are saved as JPG inside the PDF, so transparent areas turn white. How many photos you can combine depends on the memory of your device.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does putting a JPG into a PDF reduce its quality?

Not for a JPG that is stored upright: it is placed in the PDF unchanged. A photo that has to be turned upright first is saved again as a JPG at high quality, which changes it very slightly.

Why is my PDF so large?

The photos are kept at full quality, so the PDF is about as large as all of them together. Make the photos smaller first, for example with the Image Compressor, and then create the PDF again.

Can I change the order of the pages?

Yes. When you choose several images, a list with Up and Down buttons appears. The PDF follows that list from top to bottom.

Can I search or copy the text in the PDF?

No. Each page is a picture. If you need the words as text, PDF to Word can read picture pages with OCR, for English text.

Which page size should I choose?

A4 for documents that will be printed or sent to an office in most countries, US Letter for the United States and Canada, and Same as image for screenshots that will only be read on a screen.
